Websites with information safety, poison control, and insurance

  • American Association of Poison Control Centers: learn about poison safety in English as well as a variety of languages. Remember, for Poison emergencies call the Poison Help hotline at 1-800-222-1222.
  • Consumer Product and Safety Commission : comprehensive information on product safety and recalls.
  • Household Products Database: learn what's in the products under your sink, in your garage or laundry room, about their potential health effects, and about safety and handling.
  • Insure Kids Now!: The federal government & the states together offer health insurance coverage for children through Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
  • Pennsylvania's CHIP website: for the CHIP children's health insurance program in Pennsylvania. You can also find dentists who provide services to CHIP children at InsureKidsNow's PA Dental section of the federal website.
  • Tox Town: the National Library of Medicine's website devoted to environmental health concerns and toxic chemicals where you live, work & play. Remember, for Poison emergencies call the Poison Help hotline at 1-800-222-1222.

Websites about special needs, physical disabilities, or learning disabilities

  • Montgomery Intermediate Unit Early Intervention Services: an overview of services to evaluate and help pre-school children who may have mental/physical disabilities or developmental delays. Services can help get pre-school children ready for school.
  • Autism Society of America: website containing information about Autism spectrum discorder.
  • National Center for Learning Disabilities: works to ensure that the nation's 15 million children, adolescents, & adults with learning disabilities have every opportunity to succeed in school, work, and life.
  • Center for Parent Information and Resources: provides information on parenting for families with special needs children, links to local parenting centers, and on-line information resources.
  • Pathways Awareness Foundation: focuses on early motor delays, a wide range of neuromuscular conditions — from nonspecific low muscle tone to cerebral palsy — and how physical therapy can help.
  • Speechville: useful information if your child has difficulty with speech, language, communication, or is a late talker.
