Horsham PA Library
Access for Special Needs

For our mobility impaired patrons

The Horsham Township Library building is accessible for patrons who use wheelchairs, walkers or who have physical impairments that limit their mobility. All library collections, facilities and program areas are located on ground floor level. Handicapped parking spaces are located near the barrier-free main entrance.

The Library staff is happy to help patrons with reaching materials, operating equipment or other activities. Please ask at the main circulation desk whenever you would like help.

For our visually impaired patrons

Visually impaired patrons may find the library's collection of large-type books, books on tape and books on compact disc useful.

In its reference area, the library has a Closed-Circuit TV enlarger which magnifies images on print material. This equipment was donated in memory of Dr. Peter Havas. It can be used by visually impaired library patrons to enlarge type on books and documents, to enlarge hand-written letters, checkbooks, or other correspondence, and to enlarge photographs and other images.

The library does not offer books in braille; however, the Regional Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped in Philadelphia provides a wide variety of services and materials for visually impaired and physically disabled patrons. The staff of the Horsham Township Library would be happy to help make arrangements for you to receive services from the Regional Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. Services from this branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia are free to eligible visually impaired patrons.

For our homebound patrons

Homebound patrons can receive reference and information services by telephone and email by contacting the library at the address listed below. The Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library provides a Books-By-Mail service on behalf of the public libraries in Montgomery County. The staff of the Horsham Township Library would be happy to help make arrangements for you to receive Books-By-Mail service, if appropriate.

For patrons who need to learn to read, improve reading skills, or learn English as a Second Language

Horsham Township Library does not run its own literacy program because there are already a number of excellent programs in the area. To locate a literacy program (to learn to read), an Adult Basic Education program (to get a General Equivalency High School Diploma), or an ESL (English as a Second Language) program, click on this link to the National Literacy Directory sponsored by Dollar General Literacy Foundation, the National Center for Family Literacy (NCFL) and ProLiteracy. You can find a program offering just the help you need in your geographic area by zipcode. The website offers a version in Spanish as well as in English.
